    Frequently Asked Questions

    DOES HONEY EVER EXPIRE?

Honey doesn't expire if it's natural, properly preserved, and stored in a sealed container.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY HONEY?

We recommend storing your honey on the counter or in the cabinet of your kitchen away from direct sunlight. If your honey hardens over time, you can soften the honey by placing the bottle in a bowl of warm water for 30 minutes.

    CAN YOUNG CHILDREN HAVE HONEY?

Please do not give honey to children younger than 1 year old.

    IS YOUR HONEY PASTEURIZED?

Our natural honey is strained, not pasteurized.

ARE BEES HARMED WHEN HONEY IS HARVESTED?

The welfare of our bees is our top priority, that is why we take proactive measures when harvesting honey to ensure that our bees remain safe. When bees are harmed in the harvesting process, this is often the result of stinging a beekeeper, but not from the honey harvesting process.

    ABOUT SOURWOOD HONEY

    The Origin of Sourwood Honey

Sourwood honey, celebrated for its distinctive rich flavor and light color, originates from the nectar collected by bees from the sourwood tree (Oxydendrum arboreum). This tree is native to the Appalachian Mountains, particularly flourishing in areas from southern Pennsylvania to northern Georgia. The sourwood tree blooms from late June - July, producing delicate, lily-of-the-valley-like flowers that are a major source of nectar for bees in these regions. The unique timing of its bloom, often after other spring flowers have faded and before the full onset of summer blooms, allows bees to produce a mono-floral honey that is highly prized. The result is a honey with a unique, spicy, and buttery taste, often with a hint of caramel.

    Sourwood Honey Health Benefits

Sourwood honey is not only sought after for its exceptional taste but also for its health benefits. Like other raw honeys, sourwood honey contains antioxidants which help to protect the body against cellular damage and inflammation. It is also reputed to have antimicrobial properties, making it beneficial in the treatment of wounds and infections. Additionally, its use as a natural cough suppressant and throat soother makes it a popular choice during cold and flu season.
